Hear what Keifer and Keifer's Mum think of My English School. He's happy, she's happy with her child's progress... and so is his teacher!
Teacher | I’m Teacher Rachel and we are at My English School and I’m with Keifer Ng and his mother and they are joining us today. Can you tell us why did you decide to enroll Keifer in an enrichment centre when you did? |
Keifer’s Mum | Because we want him to learn English in a proper manner starting from the very basic phonics which we know that it will definitely help him in learning pronunciation and as well as reading. |
Teacher | How do you think that enrolling Keifer early in an enrichment centre and having him continue on all the way through Primary 3 that he’s in now, how do you think that has affected him in school work? |
Keifer’s Mum | He can read by himself before he turned 6. He was starting to read by himself at 5. And he started to write stories at 6, so it certainly help him when he goes in Primary School. So far we hear nothing that he is struggling in school homework; his school works and he’s able to do well coping well then. The programme certainly helps him actually preparing him ahead. And when teacher comes to touch on the same topic he’s able to grasp the topic easier. |
Teacher | In what ways would you like for him to continue to improve? What do you hope to see him improve at? |
Keifer’s Mum | Right now… He is still… we still want to see him improve further in his comprehension and composition so that it will help him in his academic. |
Teacher | Does he enjoy comprehension? |
Keifer’s Mum | Certainly better than composition. But because of the practice given to him almost every week, when he approaches comprehension in school you can see that he is doing it well. Easier for him he can attempt the question easier. |
Teacher | What kind of things does Keifer struggle in, in school with comprehension or composition? |
Keifer’s Mum | Composition… right now… I see that… he is still not doing it with much confidence. I think he will need to spend more time in planning and how to write it in a more interesting manner. |
Teacher | Keifer, what kind of things do you enjoy about coming to this class? |
Keifer | I enjoy learning how to answer comprehension in a right manner. |
Teacher | Do you enjoy the comprehension stories? |
Keifer | Comprehension stories… I don’t enjoy it but I realize I can answer the questions by myself now. |
Teacher | So can you answer the questions in school? |
Keifer | Yes. I have much confidence in it. |
Teacher | Have you noticed any kind of difference or improvement in Keifer’s in school? |
Keifer’s Mum | So far… school has been giving me very good feedback that he has no problem doing show and tell. He can stand in front of the class and read. So I believe it is because he was exposed to all this training in this class… in My English School class, so I don’t hear any issue… any problem in school. It has been always a good feedback. |
Teacher | When you come to class what kind of things do you hope to improve? |
Keifer | I hope to improve in my… story writing… and my comprehension. |
Teacher | What is your favourite… when we are doing the book in class, what is your favourite thing to do in the book? |
Keifer | One of my favourite things is the quiz review at the last page of each book. |
Teacher | Why is that? |
Keifer | Because it’s like… they are reviewing everything that you’ve learned. Make you see if you can remember what does it, how to use it, or what does it mean. |
Teacher | Thank you very much for your time. Thank you for coming. |
